Hunting® Drill Pipe

Hunting® pioneered the 1-piece forged drill pipe for use in the HDD industry in 1993. As the leading manufacturer of HDD drill pipe, this premium pipe is manufactured from a special alloy material that when heat treated conforms to grade S-135. Beginning with a seamless tube this pipe is internally & externally upset for optimal strength, heat-treated, straightened and then inspected for conformity to S-135 standards. Finally, the pin and box connections are precision machined onto the heat-treated to grade blanks. The original connection which was developed by Hunting is also present in drill pipe which Vermeer markets under its registered Firestick trademark as Firestick® I drill pipe. These pipe feature a double shoulder for increased torque handling capabilities, steep taper for deep stabbing and when combined with a fast pitch thread delivers quick makeups and breakouts.
In 1999 Hunting designed a new connection which has also been adopted by Vermeer for its drill pipes which Vermeer has marketed under its registered Firestick trademark as Firestick® II drill pipes. This connection contains the same features as the Firestick® I with the addition of a patented shoulder design that resists flaring from high torque and bending stresses.
